Classic Caesar Salad Recipe with Garlic Croutons
Ingredients
- 2 cos lettuce hearts
- 2 slices of day-old bread
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup of olive oil
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 anchovy fillets, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Step 2: Cut the bread into cubes to make croutons. In a bowl, mix half of the olive oil with one crushed garlic clove. Toss the bread cubes in this mixture until they are well coated. Spread them out on a baking sheet.
Step 3: Bake the bread cubes in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until they are crunchy and golden brown. Once done, remove them from the oven and let them cool.
Step 4: Prepare the salad dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, remaining olive oil, the other crushed garlic clove, the chopped anchovies, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5: Toss the cos lettuce hearts in the dressing until they are well coated. Add the cooled croutons and sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top.
Step 6: Serve the salad immediately, while the croutons are still crunchy.
